The Buddha & The Borderline: My Recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder Through Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Buddhism, & Online Dating
If you are suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), this is a must read. Yes, it does go into some of the Buddhist religion and life style, but even as a Christian, I found things about this religion and way of life I found to be very helpful.
Kiera tells of her journey through the BPD life. As a reader who suffers from BPD, this book was a cling-to memoire of a woman who shares her personal details in life from drug and alcohol abuse, to self-mutilation, destructive relationships, hospitalizations, treatment plans, medication, and becoming an advocate.
She tells how her ability to reach out to her family for help is not as easy as it should be. How her mother doesn’t agree with her diagnosis and in turn, refuses to talk about it. Her father, who is also a recovering addict starts off believe everything can be solved with a 12 step program meeting.
Her help comes from an unlikely source – an ex of her mother – who offers to help her find a job, a home, and peace. He is a great source of support when she needed it the most.
In a world where we all think we are at rock bottom, Kiera seems to have found a support system, in the end, that helps her to not recover, but learn how to balance her life. With her support system, and the Buddhist religion and life style now in full swing in he rlife, she is able to become what all of us suffering from BPD long for the most; a functioning member of society.
